What is an Addon Domain?
In simple words, If you are hosting multiple websites on a single server or Hosting, all the domains (except the primary domain) are addon domains.
Example: When you buy a web hosting for your business, you are asked to enter a domain. This is the Primary domain for which you’re buying the Hosting.
Now, If you need to host other websites/ domains in the same server, you need to add an extra domain, these extra domains are called Addon domains.
How to add Addon Domains in A2 Hosting?
In order to add addon domain, you must log in to your a2 hosting account using the credentials provided on Hosting sign up.
Once done follow the steps below:
- Log in to your cPanel by clicking on “cPanel Login“.
- Locate the Addon Domains option in the cPanel dashboard.
- Click on the option “Addon Domains”.
- Now enter the name of the domain
- As soon as you enter the domain name and click or press tab on the next field, cPanel automatically fills the “Subdomain” box and the “Document root”.
- Click on Add Domain.
It must be remembered that, In order for the addon domain to work, you must point the domain to the hosting server. This is done by configuring the domain names DNS record to point to the Hosting nameserver.
How are the files of Addon Domain stored?
As soon as you add an addon domain, it creates a subdirectory within the primary account where all the files are/ will be stored.
